For The Love of Details

I'm in Las Vegas this week for some training and meetings. And there's no place like Vegas for great hotels.

For this trip I'm staying at the Pallazo and there are some great details in the room.....

The room is for the most part neutral with gold, cream, and beige. Then pops of color are brought in with accent pieces. There are so many textures and patterns in the room but they all work together because they are within the same tone and color family. The lux details all layer and coordinate.

That's just the room...I could go all day on the public areas!

A space gets better when the details all come together to make something great. Don't you agree?
Do you take in the details when you stay at a great hotel?

Which Type of Interior Inspires You?

It has come to my attention lately that there are two main types of design for residential interiors. Just in the last couple of months it has become even more apparent that most people find their main inspiration in one of the two types.

Fully Styled/Designed Interiors, and Lived In Interiors

Fully Styled/Designed

Lived In

I find that in reading others blogs (and also looking back on my own) that people either post a lot of gorgeous images of fully styled/designed interiors, or the latter more lived in look. I think it's just what each specific person gravitates towards. Of course there are spaces that bridge the gap between the two, but for the most part they will fit into one or the other category.

At this point in my life I find myself in more of a lived in-ish look. Though I definitely gravitate towards a more fully designed look, I am nowhere near to being Styled/Designed as I plan to be someday. To me Styled/Designed spaces take money and doing them well. Using antiques, lux fabrics, and custom pieces.

Right now I am just working with a strict budget as well as a rental home. Not too much can be done to a rental. Everyone knows you have to get creative and take everything with you. Someday when we have a more permanent home I plan to kick things up a notch......and fully style/design.

What about you? Which look do you gravitate towards? Are you living it?

A relaxing day with not a care in the world......

I have major tropical fever on the brain. I need to be somewhere sipping fruity drinks looking at the sea beyond.

Hope everyone is having a great week so far. Busy busy for me but getting lots of stuff done. Anyone had a recent tropical vacay or have one planned? Do tell....I am okay living vicariously.
Have a Great One!

Full Country Charm

I have been wanting to share some amazing pictures from the November 2011 issue of Atlanta Homes & Lifestyles Magazine, but life got busy and you all know how that goes.

The pictures below are of a country retreat that belongs to a good friend and design colleague Jared Paul.

A few years ago he happened upon a property that he couldn't refuse and renovated the place from top to bottom. The place was practically a tear down but Jared saw potential and turned in into a retreat that he and his partner now frequent.

Located just 30 minutes south of Atlanta in Palmetto, GA its the perfect location to get away from it all. Jared is not only a talented Atlanta interior designer, but he is also product rep for many of the Commercial and Hospitality firms here in Atlanta, as well as runs the Paul+Raulet showroom at ADAC. Busy guy indeed and I can see why this retreat is well used.

Not to mention he is the nicest, coolest guy around! I only wish I had an amazing place to retreat to after a busy week in the city. Hmmm....maybe I should give him a call. I saw guest bedrooms!

Have A Great Weekend!

Layering the Space

Something is missing and I just now realized what I need to do to fix it. Our living room (and full house for that matter) has seemed shiny and new lately and doesn't have the collected over time look that I am going for.....even though I have been collecting overtime.  I need to bring in some antique and vintage pieces to add something old to the mix.

I need to layer a punchy rug over the sisal we already have. The ideal would be to have to an antique rug but I am not sure I can afford that right now (I will hunt though). Maybe I can search for a great vintage buy that someone doesn't know they have! Dreams, I know.

I need to add some wood...older antique wood finishes. At first I was trying to keep anything brown out of our house. That included stained wood as much as possible. I didn't want to add it in because our last place felt so over run with it. I've decided that I was wrong. It all feels new and cheap without at least a sprinkling of some of that warmth.

I need to add some vintage and antique accessories....all the stuff I have looks too new. I need to get some older looking items in there to break things up and not make it look like I went to Ikea and home goods this past weekend....Ha ha. That is totally what it looks like.

So, I feel like we are off to a good start but I can already see so much more potential for the space. Of course a collected look takes time and patience. You can't just go out and find everything in one weekend (well you can but that's not practical with a budget). It will take time and probably some mistakes to get it right. But that's the fun part right!

How about you guys? Ever changed your mind on a design part way through???
