Yeah For Birthdays!

This past weekend was a whirlwind of excitement. Moving into the new place and celebrating two birthdays has left this little lady tuckered out!

On Saturday night we had dinner with friends at Woodfire Grill. Amazing!! We had never been and I can't believe we waited this long. The food was awesome. We did the 7 course tasting menu with wine pairings. To say we were all stuffed and a bit tipsy would have been an understatement. I am still thinking about some of the dishes we had.

please excuse my glazed over face.....I was excited and this was after all the wine :)

And we got to spend some time with Kevin of  Top Chef fame. He was so nice and dare I say a bit taken aback by our rowdy group (remember 7 wine pairings). He was awesome though. Took pictures with all of us and answered all the foodie questions we had about the meal and everything else. All in all I would say this was a great birthday and the perfect meal with the best people.

After all this go go go for the past couple of months I am ready to relax. We are planning to take our time unpacking and getting it right.....best way to be organized in my opinion. I apologize for being light on here this week. I am ready to catch up on some neglected things and must get some rest too!

Here's to a new week, and the next 30 years for me!!!

Weekend Wishes 2.25.11

We have a jam packed fabulous weekend ahead of us!

Moving day is finally here! Yeah, you don't have to read about it anymore!!!!! (I know you're excited). We move today and then have a couple things to wrap up on Saturday...you know, cable hook up etc. Then it will all be over and we'll be in our new place.

This also happens to be Birthday weekend for us. Yep, my husbands b-day is Saturday. Mine is Sunday. My 30th. We have plans on Saturday night for dinner with friends but I don't know everything about it....semi-surprise! I'm excited. All I know is it's a small group (what I wanted) at some restaurant somewhere. I'll let you guys know all about it next week.

So that's it....or a lot actually. I don't know why we always pack all our excitement into one weekend.....you would think we would want to spread the love around. Oh, well. It should be a great one! I can probably guess that we will be passed out tired by the time Sunday night rolls around.

Hope everyone has a great weekend too!!!!

Farewell House

Today is our last day at the house. It's bittersweet but also exciting. So many good memories but also some high electric bills. We would have loved to own this house and renovate it but it was never to be. All she needed was a nice complete gut job and she would have been the happiest house on the block.

This is the 1st place where we started our lives together....and brought all of our stuff together. We had parties, and spent lazy weekends watching movies. I'll miss it a lot.......

So goodbye house with your columns and amazing front porch......

Your charming built ins and fireplace........

Your great moldings..........

and kitchen my husband will truly miss..........

You have been great and we will always remember you as our first place. Unfortunately we can't stay but wish us luck as we venture off to bigger and better things. Don't be too sad, we'll probably drive by once and awhile to see how you look and remember all the fun times we had.

Pretty Pastels

I know I'm not the only one who has spring fever at the moment. This brief jaunt through the land of gorgeous weather has been wonderful here the past couple of weeks. I say brief because I know Mother Nature will at some point take it away again for the required "cold-snap" that happens after we have been teased for a bit.

Nonetheless I am so ready for spring and all it entails. Flowers, sunshine, and pretty pastels.

I hope everyone is having a fabulous week so far. It's been busy around these parts...but really when has it not been. Keeping me upbeat are the somewhat frequent trips I make outside during the work day to bask a bit in the sunshine. Hope mother nature can hold off on that "cold snap" for awhile.....

Caught My Eye

Recently I have come across a couple of creative storage solutions that I thought I would share.

This is such a cool idea. Flat files can be hard to find but if you have tons of paperwork these are wonderful for keeping pages flat and safe. I love that she has taken them and created a day bed. Genius. They are very sturdy so I could definitely see this working well!

This is just such a great idea for a small space. Build your dresser into the steps! Genius.

Seen any innovative storage lately?

Weekend Wishes 2.18.11

All I really want for this coming weekend is to be able to breath through my nose freely again. This cold has prevented that this whole week and there is nothing pretty about a mouth breather in my book. I'm at the end of this thing and hopefully this weekend will be the final sniffles and sneezes.

tea was my saving grace this past week

The weather is supposed to be amazing here in Atlanta all weekend long so I hope to get a bit of time in the sun. We have some outdoor tables and chairs to clean so we can sell them....at least I know we will be outside for that. Maybe having a nice lunch outside will be in the cards???

oh, I hope I get out and bask in the sun

The final packing push will happen and we also have to do some shopping for a couple of things. We are in need of a new mattress so we need to hit up the mattress store for that. And we have found a dresser we like for the master bedroom that we need to get. All things bought in hopes of delivery or moving while we have the service of the movers. I am not very helpful when it comes to lifting furniture, and we are moving into a three story town house.

we'll have to pack up the cat too

My mom is also coming in town to help us with the final packing so we will have some quality time with her as well. We have plans for a family game night at my sister's new place on Sunday night with all the aunts and cousins. I'll get some pictures of her place, though it's not completely done yet.

looking forward to family game night snacks.....and wine

Another busy weekend ahead but it will feel good to get all this stuff complete, then a nice rest at the end and some time with family. I hope you all have a great weekend as well!

In A Fog

Nope, not the weather here...it's actually a really nice and sunny week here in Atlanta. It's my head. Both figurative and literally.

I have come down with a head cold (knew it would hit at some point since busy days = immune system havoc wreaking) and also haven't been able to think clearly all week. I am just at a total loss here with still so much to do. No major rest in site till after we move...which can't get here soon enough.

I am trying to rest as much as I can so I haven't been as active on blogs and twitter as I had hoped this week. Oh, well...I promise I'll make it up to you at some point. Till then I'm going to have another cup of tea and try to concentrate on some work I need to get done....oh and maybe spend a few moments outside in this wonderful sunshine we are having......maybe that will break the fog.

Hope everyone is having a great week!

Pillows Pillows Pillows

Sometimes I think you can never have enough throw pillows around. But, then I have to stop myself and say sometimes less is more.

Throw pillows are a great way to add pizazz to any room, and a super easy way to experiment with adding pattern to your space. In the end if you don't like it it's just a throw pillow that's easy to change out......worry free decor!

I am constantly on the look out for great patterned pillows and these days Etsy has the market locked-up (in my opinion). There are so many sellers making fabulous pillows in all price points. It's super easy for someone who doesn't have access to a sewing machine or just doesn't want to deal with having custom pillows made. Etsy is a great source for custom pillows delivered right to your door.

Here are some of the many thousands of sellers:

Happy Shopping! Have you gotten any fabulous pillows lately? Know of any other Etsy sellers we shouldn't miss?

The Color of Love

The day of Love, red roses, chocolate, and kisses. Personally I love to spread the love throughout the year instead of one day but there is one thing I definetly love about the holiday.......The red and pink color scheme!

Hope everyone has a fabulous day.....filled with Love!

Weekend Wishes 2.11.11

Happy Weekend Everybody! How was this past week? For Me? Not so bad. Hectic? Yes, with that last minute trip. But it was all worth it in the end after we got full approval to move on and place orders. That always feels great.

I am in need of some rest this weekend but alas....no rest for the weary here! Not to sound like a broken record but we will still be spending this weekend packing, and getting rid of stuff. We still have a lot to do before my mom comes next weekend. We have enlisted the help of what I would consider a packing and cleaning expert, and she won't be happy if things aren't to a certain point.

So, that's about it. Just boring packing. I would like to also catch up on some blog reading but I also still have a ton of magazines to go through and trash. Some I can't bear to toss without taking a quick gander to make sure I'm not throwing away an awesome idea in there somewhere.

That's it for us. Can't wait to get to moving weekend so I can stop saying to people I have to clean and pack....dull. Anyone have any glamorous or fun plans this weekend? Please tell me what they are so I can imagine those are my plans instead! Have a great one!!!

Office Clean-Up Reveal

Okay, so I know this is way long over due, and you guys were supposed to come hunt me down if it didn't get it completed on time...as I stated here, but I finally completed and took pictures (before it got messy again) of my desk at work!!!!!

Here is the before...in case you forgot.
Things got a little complicated with this whole project. There was a snow storm that kept me away from the office, deadlines kept me from really starting, deadlines messed up the desk again, and I just didn't have time to take pictures of the after....excuses, excuses, excuses. So, excuses no more.....here is the cleaned up and organized cube.

No more stacks of papers everywhere....all nice and filed away. And my breakfast has plenty of room.

Now, I know this is nothing to write home about and I won't be calling any shelter mags for a project feature anytime soon, but the space is now way better organized. I can breath better when I'm in there (compared to before when it was "eating away at my soul"). And the best part of this whole project? I am keeping up with keeping it clean and put together. During the week things get hectic but at the end of the week I make sure everything is put away or stacked neatly so I am ready and rearin' to go come Monday morning.

My jumbled mess of an inspiration board is now much more inspiring, and I have plenty of space for drawing.

It's like a breath of fresh air and I can actually design in the space again.....I used to go elsewhere in the office. I still go elsewhere, but I also do a lot more in the space now. And, the clear open surface makes rolling out drawings easier, which I have to do everyday.

All my project files are organized so I can find things now.....such a headache before!

So, there you have it. My new cleaner, more organized office. How about you, any recent organization projects you have completed?

The Unexpected

I'm off on an unexpected trip today for work. Lexington, KY is the destination and I have a presentation on carpet that I will be giving (think large scale patterns for ballrooms).

Hopefully all will go smoothly and we will get approval on everything presented. Unfortunately there will be no time to see the city....just the view to and from the airport. My favorite is flying over and viewing all the expansive horse farms there.....so much green grass. Unless it snows, which they are calling for a touch of...which would be nice to see on all the fields as well. (Sorry, I know some of you wince when you read the word snow!)

The unexpected always throws me off a bit so I hope I can pull this presentation off with flying colors. I also apologize that this is all I have for you today. This trip has thrown off my whole week. Wish me luck and I'll be back on Friday.

Organization Heavyweight: Trays

One of the best ways to organize things in your home is the with the use of trays. Using them helps group things together instantly achieving a more polished look.

There are a myriad of styles, colors, and types to choose from so there is no excuse for not finding one that will work with your already existing decor. Or add a much needed pop to what you have. The possibilities and combinations are endless.

I have been using trays for years to group things neatly but even I have to admit even I don't use them to their full potential. In our new home you bet I will be using them to keep things organized and looking neat. Do you use trays to keep things neat? If so, how?

Art Addiction {Ryan Coleman}

On my latest jaunt through Etsy land I came across the ethereal art of Ryan Coleman.

Interrupted By Sky

Almost There

Garden

Untitled

Struggle

I love the light and airy quality that his brush strokes create. Everything is hazy and soft. All of his pieces are calming and I just all together enjoy looking at them. It's all so soft and light and he does an amazing job with portraying movement. And these are just a few of the pieces I liked.....I could have kept going. Head on over and check the rest out....it gets better!

Hope everyone had a great weekend! Those of you who follow me on twitter may have noticed a few tweets about our Operation Clean-Out (If not hop on over and follow me by clicking on the link in the left side bar...I think I'm starting to get the hang of it). We did such a great job and got rid of a ton of stuff. Multiple trips to Goodwill were made, and an entire bedroom has been sold off on Craig's List. All in all I would say we are on the right track.....but still with tons more to do. Here's to a hopefully peaceful week and things don't get too hectic around here!
