Modern Cabin

My husbands family has a cabin in the North Carolina mountains. It's the best place to disappear to and unwind. We try to drive up as often as possible.....but you know how it goes when you get busy.

As the weather starts to get colder and the snow starts to fall in the mountains it makes me want to escape there even more. Supposedly they are getting some snow now! I would love to be there instead of sitting in my cubicle.

Someday I would love to have a little A-frame cabin that we would add a modern twist too. Don't get me wrong, nothing is better than a rustic cabin in the woods with the traditional cabin look and feel......but don't you agree that streamlining the interior makes it all the more relaxing! Take a look......

I love the juxtaposition between the exposed wood and the clean lines of the furniture. Such a calm feeling space for a place where relaxation is on the agenda. Someday......

A View From Above

I know everyone goes gaga over herringbone floors....especially wood.

Well, what do we think of the carpet version???

Unfortunately there is a catch (Boohoo). This is a new product from Interface FLOR which is the commercial carpet sister of FLOR tiles. This is from their hospitality line and is not available to the public. Darn. Maybe the residential side of FLOR will move in this direction in the near future. Here's hoping!

Getting Back On Track

So, yes I know I have been gone for months. Even after I said I would be back. Bad, bad, Lissa.

Well, I'm actually back this time and ready to get things back on track.
I've been busy yes, but I have also been doing a lot of relaxing and just doing the normal everyday thing. More of the everyday than anything cool really. And I miss blogging!

We have been living life. I am getting settled into my new job and now feel comfortable with what I am know, new job integration. I have been futzing around the house looking at it but not doing anything about it (sad state of affairs). And, we added a new member to the family in the form of a furry beast.

His name is Wallace and he has been taking up most of our time and attention, as he well should. He is a Norwich Terrier and has the most spunky personality. He definitely keeps us on our toes and has been a long awaited addition to our lives. Let's just say if anyone has questions about going through a breeder let me know....I spoke with lots of them :)

We have spent lots of time doing this.....gotta love the husband for taking pictures like this :)

So, other than that all is well. I just wanted to put up a post letting everyone know that I am still alive, and that if anyone is still reading I am back to post about design, inspiration, and what ever else I fancy. I hope everyone is doing well and I look forward to getting back into the blog world and talking to all of you guys!

See Ya,

Sorry to drop off the face of the blog this past month. I got a little lost in my life. I have just been enjoying my time and didn't want to have really anything to do (like decide what I was going to post about). I took advantage of this time and caught up on reading, and just life in general.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful end of the summer/winter (depending on where you are)! I always look forward to the time when the seasons change. I figure another week or so and I'll be back to taking part in the wonderful world of blogging.

It's Labor Day weekend here and I am looking forward to that extra day of sleeping in and enjoying time at home. No plans this year...just laying low. Hope everyone has a great weekend and I'll be back soon.

I'd Stay Here: Soho Beach House

Since I am in the business of hotel design I have recently gotten some comments from friends and family about why I don't have anything on the blog about hotels. Duh! Why have I not done that yet? I am constantly looking at great hotels for ideas of my own, so I thought why not show you guys some as well. These are the hotels that get it right.

First up is Soho Beach House in Miami Beach.......

What!!!! Loving this, and even loving this more in Miami. The fact that it's so NOT Miami makes it even better. I am a huge fan when design pushes the envelope. Especially when they break out of the box on a look that is typical for the area. Why not have rustic wood planks in Miami.

Spa Reception
Spa Changing Area

 Spa Relaxing Room

Even the spa is a different world. Nice and homey. I am positive I could relax there!

 Club Bar

Cecconi's Restaurant
Cecconi's Bar

Outdoor Seating

And all these amazing spaces to relax, eat, and have a cocktail. Great way to end a busy day running around Miami.

Guest Bathroom

Guestroom Balcony

And amazing guestrooms where I would have no problem getting my beauty rest. And then waking up in the morning with coffee on that balcony...taking in the view.

Peaceful Beach Retreat

I can't stop flipping through the pages of the July/August Issue of Elle Decor. In it a spread showing the most spectacular Nantucket retreat by Ascher Davis Architects. Who better to redesign a home than someone who has many childhood memories there.

Rebecca Asher spent many summers at Sandhill, a home rented by family friends every summer. I would have tagged along too! No work was done to the outside of the home and the original Nantucket charm was kept (also because of the strict area preservation laws). No problem that I see.

Though no structural changes were made to the exterior shell the inside was opened up and made more bright and airy. With a style that Asher calls "Nantucket meets Miami" the resulting space is nothing short of pristine. The entire home was painted white and the furnishings brought in are light and comfortable. A perfect space to relax. That is what you are supposed to do at the beach after all right?
And on a side note.....I need that coffee table!

Such great open and bright spaces to relax. All the rooms look so clean and uncomplicated providing the perfect retreat for the mind as well. All of the furniture and finishes chosen are low maintenance and allow the family to spend time enjoying the beach and each other.....instead of cleaning or worrying about sand on the furniture.

And, the bedrooms are so peaceful its hard to not imagine sleeping with the cool ocean breeze coming through the windows. Oh man....I need to get here fast!

Ohhhh, and to see the ocean from a long leisurely soak....heaven on earth.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful summer so far. Anyone have a fabulous beach vacation coming up? I am looking forward to my annual trip in September. It can't get there soon enough. Stay cool in this heat and have a great week!

Weekend Wishes 7.8.2011

Whew, even though this was a short week (and it flew by) it was jam packed with way to much to do. I would come home after work and pass out with exhaustion. Have no idea why......not like I was running marathons or something. I do know that I would like to catch up on some sleep and relax this weekend. Maybe my body is telling me to slow down a bit. I'll listen!

I also finally found the fabric I want for our bedroom drapes! And with the 50% Scoutmob deal at Lewis and Sheron it would be dumb of me not to get it. I'll get the fabric, just not sure when I'll get the drapes made. Either way it's one step closer to a finished room.....though we have a ways to go for the bedroom.

I also have the dining console that I sometimes bring up that I am going to paint. I have started it, but it needs one more coat of paint and then to be lacquered to death. Well, enough is enough. I need to get that project done and end the constant questions from my husband on "when are you gonna finish painting that buffet?". I'm so bad at starting projects and really never finishing them.

Anyone else have some fun decor projects on the schedule for this weekend????

Loving Stripes

Need a cheery pick me up for your space? Why not add a stripe?

I am all about stripes. Ask anyone who knows me and they will tell you I wear stripe shirts like there is no tomorrow (I'm even wearing one as I type this). To me stripes are a classic pattern that will never go out of style. In your wardrobe, or your home.

Just as simple as adding a rug or a pillow can make an impact. Or, you can go all out and do the walls, the floors, the ceilings, drapes, or large pieces of furniture. All great ways to add the best pattern around (in my book definitely!). So, do you love a stripe? Use them in your home?
